Philippe Auguste was born in St. Marc in 1908. He was fifty-one years old vhen he began to paint full time. In 1960 he joined the Centre d'Art after a career as a lawyer. He is an "old master" of Haitian painting. He passed away in Port-au-Prince in 1989.
