Micius Stephane was born in 1912 in Bainet, on the Caribbean coast of Haiti. After Stephane met DeWitt Peters in 1945, he began to paint at the Centre d'Art in 1948 and subsequently exhibited in the U.S. and Europe between the years 1961 and 1979. Stephane is considered one of Haiti's eminent "primitive" artists. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Musée d'Art Haitien and the Milwaukee Museum of Art. ). Stephane passed away in 1996.
